Dark Shell offers an alternate history in which the occupying forces that occupied Japan after World War II failed to establish lasting power, and in the resulting chaos, many factions emerged claiming to rule the country, leading to unheard-of bloody civil strife.

A small group of soldiers from one of the warring parties, having fought off the main forces and wandering through a deserted devastated area, comes across several young refugee women and takes them under their protection. It is clear that the military is not driven by humanism at all, but by the most carnal motives. In the flames of war, all the usual moral foundations have collapsed, and before the eyes of young Moe, the youngest of the refugees, disgustingly ugly scenes are played out. Women are trying at all costs to protect a girl who has already experienced violence in the past from soldiers who have lost their human appearance, which is why her mind is somewhat clouded.

Events take a sharp turn when an enemy sniper appears in the area, keeping up with the group and slowly but surely striking both the rapists and their victims...
